Good Morning! Over the last couple of years as I have navigated my weight loss journey, I have learned a few tricks that helped me get through the eating stress of the holidays. Lets talk about them over a nice hot cup of coffee, shall we?
If you are on a journey to change your lifestyle, then you most likely know that stressful feeling the holidays bring. Most gatherings involve lots of great food – and who doesn’t love that? When we are trying to change our lives, our habits, build new life long habits we often feel stressed this time of year. Here’s a couple tricks that I have learned that helped me:
- I like to do a longer fast leading up to the holiday. I usually strive for the 24 hour time range before a holiday. I often do this for a day or two after the holiday as well. I usually feel bloated for a day or two following a gathering so this helps my body equal back out.
- When you break your fast, allow yourself an hour or two window to eat. This will help control the “grazing” that some of us are guilty of at holiday gatherings.
- Others may not understand or agree with your lifestyle. That is ok. They can have their opinions – don’t let that effect how you feel and what your goals are! You are doing this for you!
- When you start to feel like you have eaten enough, wait 30 minutes. If you are still hungry, have a little more.
Remember, it’s one day. It’s important to enjoy yourself and your family. If you don’t stay completely on track, it’s ok. Enjoy the holiday. Splurge a little. Have that piece of your favorite pie. Have 2. It’s ok. Tomorrow is a new day. Wake up, re focus, remember your goals and get right back after them!
